Bra

In 1913, a New York socialite named Mary Phelps Jacob changed women's fashion forever when she cobbled the first brassiere together by tying two handkerchiefs together with ribbon. Jacob's original intention was to cover the whalebone sticking out of her corset, which was visible through her sheer dress. Jacob began making brassieres for her family and friends, and word of mouth soon spread about the garment. By 1914, Jacob had a patent for her design and was marketing it throughout the World. Although women had worn brassiere-like garments years past, Jacob's was the first to be successfully marketed and widely adopted.

Push-up Bra

A push-up bra lifts the breasts to create cleavage.

Underwire Bra

An underwire bra contains metal wires in the lower edges of the bra cups support the bust.

Demi or Shelf Bra

A demi or shelf bra covers only the lower half of the breast and is used to give a lift to the breasts, but does not create cleavage! Great for low neckline clothes.

Bustier

The bustier is a bra that extends to the waist.  A bustier provides bust support, and may also smooth or shape the waist. It is often worn with garters and stockings.

Camisole

A camisole or cami is a short lingerie top, fitted over the bust, and ends at the waistline. Camisoles can be worn visibly under an open jacket or blouse.

Charmeuse  (pronounced shar-MOOSE)

A washable, man-made, silk-like fabric. Unlike silk, charmeuse does not have to be dry cleaned...making it a practical substitute for silk in some of today's easy-care lingerie.  A couple of short minutes in a warm drier will remove any wrinkles.

Chemise  (pronounced shuh-MEESE)

A short gown hemmed below the hip but above the knee.   Often they come with a matching panty.   They are held up by thin spaghetti straps, fit snugly at the bust and upper torso and fall loosely and flow flatterringly past the hips.   A Chemise is usually longer than a Baby Doll but shorter than a Dress. The chemise was the first undergarment ever worn by women. Originally designed to protect the skin from outer garments, it later was used as night wear.

Corset

Corsets are women's lingerie that are boned and close fitting. The most common use of a corset is to slim the body and make it conform to a fashionable silhouette. For women this most frequently emphasizes a curvy figure, by reducing the waist, and thereby exaggerating the bust and hips. Corsets begin either above or just below the bust and extends down to the waist or below the hips.

Hosiery

Hosiery, pantyhose or stockings are close-fitting, elastic garments that cover the feet and legs. Hosiery comes in various styles including silk, nylon, and fishnet.

Panties

Women's panties have their origins in the 1920's when bloomers (long underwear) became shorter and looser as the flapper look came into fashion.  The panties of this time were called step-ins.

Thong

A thong is a panty with a narrow strip of fabric in the back that begins as a "v" shape at the waistband and then tapers to a thin strip by the time it reaches the crotch. This style panty is great if you want no visible panty lines and a smooth appearance.

Teddy

A camisole and panty combined into one piece. It can be fitted to the body or loose. Is worn either under clothing or as sleepwear.
